Assassin’s Creed – Locations We Want to See

Assassin’s Creed sneaked onto our Xbox 360 consoles back in 2007, and then leaped its way over to PlayStation 3 later in the year, and we’re anticipating another Assassin’s Creed reveal soon (fingers crossed). As fans of history and the Assassin’s Creed franchise, we thought now – amidst all the leaks, rumors, and apparent confirmations – it would be a great time to think about the locations we would love to visit as an assassin, in Assassin’s Creed!

Egypt

There are rumors circulating that Egypt will be the location of the next Assassin's Creed game.

Let’s get this one out of the way, because Egypt would be absolutely stunning and all indications seem to already be pointing this way! According to some leaks, the next Assassin’s Creed game is going to be set during ancient Egypt and revolve around an assassin whose primary goal is to free slaves.

Not much is known about the storyline, but you can be certain there might be some Biblical references. Assassin’s Creed hasn’t shied away from religion, what with the Templar’s holy war and the Assassins’ own beliefs, not to mention the Apples of Eden.

Egypt would be the perfect location for all these forces to meet, mingle, and be assassinated by our hidden blades.

Aztec

An Assassin's Creed game set during the time of the Aztecs would be gripping

Another period of time we’d love to see portrayed in Assassin’s Creed is the time during the Aztecs. Imaging playing as an assassin in the Aztec civilisation, set in the deepest and darkest corners of Mexico.

The Aztec people are known for their rituals, beliefs, and buildings, as well as their unfortunate run in with the Spaniards. It’s the perfect boiling pot for intrigue, plot, religious symbology, and assassin’s trying to correct the path.

Giant ziggurats, forests, villages, and all manner of buildings would make for terrific climbing locations and places to wait silently for your prey.

Roman Empire

Playing through the Roman Empire at its peak would make for an incredible Assassin's Creed game

The Roman Empire was one of the greatest empires to rule the world, and yet they eventually fell. While we got to roam around Rome in Assassin’s Creed II, we only saw the crumbling ruins of the once great people.

We can just picture it now, becoming an assassin during the height of the Roman Empire or even as it’s building towards its greatness. There are historical figures that have made great names for themselves, who would also do well as targets. Nero, for instance, has an allegedly troubling history, with some classing him a tyrant while others praising him as a man of the people.

And before Nero, there was the famous Julius Caesar, the one we all know for being assassinated. Come on, what better inspiration could there be for an Assassin’s Creed title? Plus, we can see it now, gladiator matches!

Australia Colonial Times

Playing as an assassin during the Australian Colonial era would offer a unique experience

Jumping ahead several thousand years, we have a period of time – and a place on Earth – not frequently seen in video games, the colonization of Australia. After the loss of most of its North American colonies, Britain looked elsewhere to establish additional colonies, and thanks to Captain Cook, Australia was a prime candidate.

Prisoners were sent from Britain, via penal transportation, to Australia. This would be a harrowing and lengthy journey – the perfect time to learn assassin skills and establish a stronghold in a new continent!

Australia is so far away from other countries that it might as well be on another planet. It would be thrilling to experience the raw Australian outback and environment through the eyes of an assassin.

Cold War

An Assassin's Creed game set during the Cold War would be perfect. KGB agents, subterfuge, it all works.

With everyone threatening to press the button, the Cold War had the world at a standstill. However, even in a ceasefire there are always things happening in the background. An Assassin’s Creed game set in the midst of the Cold War would be a truly modern experience, but perhaps not modern enough to trivialize the need for special assassin abilities. Imagine filling the shoes of a KGB agent…

The long period of time that marked the Cold War was full of extreme events that took place around the globe. The construction of the Berlin Wall, the Vietnam War, the space race – all these things and more took place, and offer multiple points of interests for an assassin. The series is known for its alternate take on events, and the geopolitical nature of the Cold War is a perfect fit for the franchise.

E3 is almost upon us, and we’re waiting with baited breath to hear what Ubisoft announce. Though no official word has surfaced yet about the reality of an Assassin’s Creed game set in Egypt, we can always hope! Where would you like to see an Assassin’s Creed game based?
