Connector Function
  Stereo, 4, 6, and 8 channel speaker configurations are selected from the Control Panel Main Tab
Front Out
(Channels 1 & 2)
Use Front Out for stereo playback on powered speakers or headphones.
Surround Out
(Channels 3 & 4)
Use Surround Out for rear channel powered speakers in 4, 5.1 and 7.1 playback modes.
Center/Sub
(Channels 5 & 6)
Use Center/Sub for powered center and sub-woofer speakers in 5.1 and 7.1 playback modes.
Rear Out
(Channels 7 & 8)
Use Rear Out for powered speakers placed directly behind the listener in 7.1 playback mode.

S/PDIF Digital In Optical S/PDIF input for recording digital audio from external sources at resolutions of up to 24 bit at 96 kHz (16 bits at 48kHz sampling rate in Vista). Settings are in the Control Panel main tab.
S/PDIF Digital Out Optical S/PDIF output for playback of digital audio from external sources at resolutions of up to 24 bits at 96kHz sampling rate (up to 16 bits at 48kHz sampling rate in Vista). Allows for pass-through of Dolby® Digital and DTS® multi-channel DVD sound to external A/V receivers or digital speaker systems.

Microphone Input
(Monaural)
Accepts condenser or dynamic microphones. You can also activate an additional 20dB boost on the mic gain through the Montego DDL Control Panel.

Line-In L/R Accepts line-level sources such as CD players, Cassette players, etc.
CD L/R In
(Stereo)
Accepts analog audio from an internal CD drive. Windows XP utilizes digital audio transfer to the sound card from the PCI bus, so this connection is not required.
Aux L/R In
(Stereo)
Accepts analog audio from a second internal CD or DVD drive  (XP / 2000 only).
