Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Software or Hardware Encoding?
A: If you capture directly to .avi it will be hardware encoded. All compressed formats will be software encoded.

Q: Does your Video Advantage ADX record Stereo audio during video capture?
A: Yes it does.

Q: I see that your Video Advantage ADX offers a Firewire 1394 Port. My computer does not support Firewire nor does it have any 1394 ports. Will I be able to use your product?
A: Absolutely! In fact, by using Video Advantage ADX, you are actually giving your computer Firewire capabilities! We recently heard of a customer who connects his Ipod to his computer through one of the Video Advantage's two available firewire ports (one 4-pin and one 6-pin). These three 1394 connectors may be used to connect your digital camcorder, digital VCR or other 1394-based peripherals. They may also be used at the same time accommodating various devices.

Q: I have a lot of old-fashioned VHS Video Tapes that I want to bring into the "Video Advantage, Edit them and then Output them back to VHS through a Composite Video Output or S-Video. Can this be done?
A: There is no Output for VHS on the Video Advantage. The reason being that nowadays DVDs are cheaper than VHS and VHS is soon becoming obsolete. What you can do is after Editing, is burn the finished product as a DVD and if you need to have the final product in VHS format, play the DVD in your DVD player and record the output with your VHS player.

Q: I have a video inspection system that has an S-video connection. I need to be able to show the camera image in real time on the computer screen and then be able to capture a still frame, save and print it in color. Can the Video Advantage ADX do this?
A: Yes you can view the S-Video connection in real time and take snap shots.

Q: Will the software in Video Advantage ADX capture closed captions? I want to convert VHS tapes to DVD, but I have lost a lot of high frequency hearing and need to capture the closed captions on the tapes.
A: If the VCR can display closed caption on the screen then the Video Advantage will capture it as well.
