Video can be captured in DV, AVI or MPEG formats. Here's how to decide which one to use:
- If you intend to extensively edit the video, use AD FullCap to capture in DV format. This will offer the best picture quality and allow frame-accurate video editing of the digital video file. Keep in mind that "extensive editing" does not mean simple edits such as splitting a long video into smaller clips, trimming the beginning or ending of a clip, cutting out commercials from a TV show, etc.?all of which can be done without frame-level accuracy. As the name implies, frame-accurate editing is best suited for editing fine details down to the frame level, such as stopping the video clip at the very point where a baseball touches the swing of a bat.
- If you do not need frame-accurate editing because you simply want to transfer a video to a DVD or CD with little or no editing, then use PowerDirector to capture it in MPEG format. Although MPEG does not provide the same level of quality or editing detail as DV format, it generates smaller files (which saves space on your hard drive) and eliminates a step when burning to DVD (which requires the video to be encoded in MPEG-2 format before it can be transferred to DVD.) _______________________________________________________________________________
