Q: If I connect your sound card to my home theater system via an optical cable, will it output true 5.1 Dolby Digital Pro Logic II?
A: Pro Logic is not "true" Dolby Digital 5.1, but rather is a simulated 5.1 or 7.1 soundfield, derived from analog stereo sources. You may notice that on some devices there's a separate LED for Dolby Digital and for Dolby Pro Logic IIx. You can have a soundtrack that doesn't have Dolby Digital 5.1 or 7.1, but does have Dolby Pro Logic encoding. Also, Pro Logic is compatible with plain stereo sources, while Dolby Digital 5.1 is not.
