An Xbox 360 can be configured to output chat audio from Xbox LIVE Chat either through a TV's speakers, a headset, or both. When using one of our headsets, Voice Output in the Xbox 360's Voice menu should be set to "Play Through Headset," but if other people want to listen in on the chat as well as the game audio you can set it to "Play Through Both" and they will also be able to hear. (To find this menu, press the Xbox Guide button on your controller, then navigate to Settings > Preferences > Voice.)

The PS3 can also be set to output PlayStation Network (PSN) chat through either speakers or a headset, but it cannot be set to output through both at the same time. When you output chat audio through the "System Default Device" on a PS3, chat audio comes through with the game audio and you cannot control chat audio volume separately from the game audio at all. (To find this menu, in the PS3 XMB, go to Settings > Accessory Settings > Audio Device Settings.)
