August 18, 2022 - KOTOR Remake may have new developer
|
The Embracer Group has revealed that one of its AAA projects has been moved to another studio within the group, with many suspecting it could be the KOTOR Remake which was in development with Aspyr. A few weeks back it was reported that the project was in trouble, but following the latest news, Embracer has suggested that the reason for the change to the undisclosed game was to ensure “the quality bar is where we need it to be for the title.” |
July 27, 2022 - KOTOR Remake delayed indefinitely
|
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic remake is “in serious trouble” and “delayed indefinitely”, according to a new report by Bloomberg. Supposedly the developer behind the project, Aspyr, have let the game’s art director and design director leave and told the rest of the dev team that the game is “on pause”. “Aspyr’s studio heads told staff that the vertical slice wasn’t where they wanted it to be and that the project would be paused, according to two people who were in the meeting. One person familiar with the discussions suggested that a disproportionate amount of time and money had gone into the demo and that the project’s current course wasn’t sustainable. Another point of contention may be the timeline. At the outset of development, Aspyr told staff and partners it would release the game by the end of 2022, according to two people familiar with production. Developers said a more realistic target now would be 2025.” |

June 20, 2022 - KOTOR 2 on Switch suffering from game-beaking glitch
|
In between working on the KOTOR Remake, Aspyr are also looking after re-releases of the original KOTOR and the sequel, Sith Lords. As per VGC, Aspyr has recently acknowledged that players are currently unable to complete the Switch version of ‘Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords’. Supposedly the game contains a game-breaking crash following the Basilisk Crash cutscene, which prohibits any progress for players. Aspyr offered a workaround and suggested they’re working on a fix soon. Let’s hope the remake doesn’t run into any of these issues! |
June 8, 2022 - Summer Game Fest Is Tomorrow!
|
Don’t forget that the third Summer Game Fest takes place on June 9, and promises to showcase “what’s next in gaming with huge new game announcements, world premieres, special guests, and much more”. It’s also worth noting that the show’s creator Geoff Keighley has let fans know that the show will be “primarily focused” on already announced games. So let’s hope that includes a look at the KOTOR remake. |

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Release Date
Despite announcing the game during a Sony PlayStation 5 showcase in September 2021 there’s no release date for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake.
We, unfortunately, don’t even have a vague release window for the game, making it rather difficult to tell precisely when the game could launch.
So far the developers at Aspyr Media have only stated that the game is “still early in development”, so we could be waiting until the end of 2023 or more likely in 2024 for the game to launch. Only time will tell.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Platforms
When the game was first launched in 2003 it was exclusive to Xbox consoles, and soon after on PC the same year. Remarkably though, the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was announced by PlayStation.
PlayStation has also confirmed that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a “console exclusive on PlayStation 5 at launch”.
Presumably, the game will arrive on Xbox Series S|X consoles eventually, although there’s no telling how long fans could be waiting for it to launch.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Trailer
When Aspyr Media did reveal the first trailer for the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, it didn’t just feature in PlayStation’s PS5 future showcase, but it actually opened the entire show. Clearly a ringing endorsement of Sony’s faith in the game itself.
The teaser itself is only short but doesn’t give a lot away. However, if you played the original game you’re sure to enjoy it all the game. Have a watch, just below:
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Gameplay
For the time being we’ve not seen any gameplay for the remake, but so far we’ve been assured from Aspyr Media that the game is being rebuilt “from the ground up with the latest tech to match the groundbreaking standard of innovation established by the original”.
It’s also worth mentioning that several former BioWare developers who worked on the original game are returning to work on the remake.
Aspyr’s Lead Producer Ryan Treadwell has also confirmed that the team was also able to add “some amazing developers from games like Demon’s Souls Remake and Ghost of Tsushima.”
