He explained that the most common letter in the first position in five-letter words is S. You could also start with words such as vowel-heavy words like ‘RAISE’ or ‘TOUCH’.

To maximise your chances, it’s also recommended not to use use the same letter twice in your opening two guesses. You may as well maximise how many letters you guess in your opening salvo. There are 26 letters in the alphabet, you may as well try to use 10 in the opening two guesses to give you the best shot at getting the answer before you run out of guesses.
