Destiny 2: Everything New In Season Of The Splicer

Destiny 2′Season of the Chosen is officially in the past. It’s time for the Season of the Splicer. Bringing with it a number of new items, rebalances, and guns to change up the meta, the newly released season has plenty of fresh features for Guardians to master. Here’s everything new in Destiny 2 Season of the Splicer.

Destiny 2 Season Of The Splicer Duration And End Date

Destiny 2’s 14th season dropped onto servers on May 11. It’ll last around 100 days, ending on August 24. That should give players ample time to try out all of the new content. While Bungie has pushed back the With Queen expansion to 2022, there’s no reason to suspect that a similar delay will hit any of the planned content for Season of the Splicer.

Destiny 2 Season Of The Splicer Story

Season 14 centers on the Fallen Kell and former Captain of the House of Dusk, Mithrax. Mithrax leads a group of Eliksni towards the Traveler for unknown reasons. At the same time, the Vex have plunged the Last City into an eternal night, threatening its safety. Mithrax himself holds the knowledge needed to combat the Vex technology trapping city and may prove to be an ally in the fight against the eternal night.

New Raids And Activities In Season Of The Splicer

Override is a new activity available in Season of the Splicer. This six-player activity commands Guardians to hack into the Vex simulation and steal code snippets in an effort to uncover the secrets they’re hiding.

Weekly Pinnacle missions also make their entrance in Season 14. These missions reset every week and offer players a chance to earn powerful gear. Called Expunge, the goal of these Pinnacle missions is to use Splicer keys to infiltrate the Vex Network and collapse it from within.

Original Destiny players will be pleased to know that the Vault of Glass is returning in Destiny 2’s Season 14. Taking place on Venus, the raid sees players attempting to find and terminate the Vex Atheon. In a unique twist, Vault of Glass features fractures in space and time that will make moving around it a bit more difficult than other raids. Guardians must defeat the Atheon before it becomes an unstoppable force by the end of the raid.

The raid won’t look exactly like it did when Destiny first released, however. Assistant game director Joe Blackburn teased that players, “should expect the raid team to have a few tricks up their sleeves when you tackle the depths of Venus this summer.” 

New Armor Synthesis (AKA Transmogs)

Years of players begging for a transmog system have finally paid off. Destiny 2’s Season of the Splicer update brought with it Armor Synthesis, which is essentially a transmog system to change the cosmetic appearance of your armor. This system isn’t as easy as paying some in-game currency for a cosmetic swap, however. Instead, players will have to grind a bit. 

To make use of Armor Synthesis players first have to recover Braytech secrets from Europa that will allow them to build a loom with the help of Ada-1. After that, Synthweave can be crafted by converting Synthcord at the loom. To get Synthcord, players need to trade Synthstrand, which is earned in turn by killing enemies. In short, if you’re a person who likes changing up how their character looks regularly, you’re going to need to grind a lot.

Destiny 2 Season 14 Power And Infusion Cap Changes

Bungie recently changed the power cap of new seasons by 50. This allowed each season to offer a fresh start in which players could rebuild their power. At the same time, it became very easy to feel underpowered when that shift arrived.

To combat this while still maintaining a sense of progression, Season 14 reduces the power cap increase to 10 per season. This could change for future expansions, but for now, players should be able to hop in and out of a season without ever feeling like they’re too far behind their peers.

Another recently introduced cap has also been given the boot. Infusion caps were brought in to make getting new gear every season a priority for players. But the community has been less than enthusiastic about the change. With Season 14, Infusion caps have been removed entirely for weapons and armor that hadn’t reached their cap as of the start of Season 13. This means that players can take their high-tier armor and exotics with them throughout the rest of Destiny 2.

Those are the biggest changes to arrive in Destiny 2 with Season of the Splicer. How they’ll affect the meta has yet to be seen, but with all the tweaks happening it’s looking like a drastically different game for most Guardians.
