An Xbox controller tends to drop or refuse a connection for three basic reasons: the controller cannot get enough power, the wireless or USB link is being interrupted, or one of the devices needs an update or repair.

Quick things to try

Give it fresh power – new AA batteries or a fully-charged pack, seated correctly. For the Stealth Ultra, ensure the controller is properly charged via the USB-C cable or the charging dock.

Hard reset the controller – If your Stealth Ultra controller won’t power on or respond, use a paper clip to press the reset button located on the back of the controller. Hold it down for 3 seconds to force a reboot.

Re-pair the controller – press the pairing buttons on both the console and the controller (or plug in a USB-C cable to trigger an automatic sync).

Swap the cable or port – a worn USB lead or flaky port can drop a wired connection, so test with another known-good cable and a different USB slot.

Install updates – open Settings → Accessories on the Xbox (or the Xbox Accessories app on Windows) and apply any controller or console firmware updates.

Clear interference – keep within five or six metres of the console and move metal shelves or check that you are within the range of the Stealth Pro wireless transmitter.

Power-cycle both devices – hold the Xbox button on the controller for a few seconds to shut it off, then unplug the console for a full minute before starting everything up again.

If the controller still drops out after those steps, test a second pad or try your pad on another console or PC. Consistent failures often point to hardware damage or water ingress, and at that stage, it is best to contact Xbox or Turtle Beach support for a repair or replacement.
