ARK Fjordur Release Date, Map, and Creatures Confirmed

ARK FJORDUR RELEASE DATE, MAP, AND CREATURES CONFIRMED

ARK Fjordur is a free official expansion map coming to ARK: Survival Evolved that was originally released as an unofficial player mod created by Nekatus & Trappel22. The content is non-canonical and doesn’t tie into the game’s original story that’s been released previously or the upcoming ARK 2 game.

Whilst ARK has always been a rather exotic and fanciful game, the Fjordur map is a Nordic-inspired adventure that lets players traverse a fantastical multi-layered wonderland with a frosty theme.

Release Date and Start Time

Studio Wildcard has confirmed that the ARK Fjordur release date has been set for June 12, 2022. It’s also confirmed that it will launch on all platforms at the same time, with a confirmed start time of 10:00AM PDT (5:00PM UTC)

This is a Sunday, and it’s quite unusual for ARK to release new updates on a Sunday, which has many players suspecting it could be tied into the Xbox and Bethesda showcase on the same day. We might even see some ARK 2 news on the day.

Download Sizes

For now the developers have only released estimated download sizes for the ARK Fjordur patch, and you’ll find those listed below

PC / EGS: ~20GB
XBOX: ~40GB
PS4: TBD

In addition, the devs have suggested that game hosts wipe any servers that were previously hosting the Fjordur map as it has undergone significant changes that will impact the world.

ARK Fjordur Map

ARK Fjordur is made up of four unique islands: Vardiland, Vannaland, Bolbjord and Balheimr. In addition, it includes the mystical realms of Jotunheim, Vanaheim, and Asgard.

According to the developers, Fjordur offers players “elaborate cave systems resplendent with Scandinavian ruins and vast monolithic entrances.”

An official map for ARK Fjordur has not been released, but given that it’s based on the existing Fjordur map modded we imagine the layout will be similar to the map below.

Here’s a quick summary of the new creatures that you’ll be able to tame in ARK Fjordur:

Andrewsarchus

“Serving as the first winner of the Community Creature Vote, Andrewsarchus makes its way to Fjordur packing an arsenal of utility! Andrewsarchus may seem sluggish while foraging for a meal, but they can move unexpectedly fast when provoked. Once tamed, its saddle will allow you to mount a minigun to the back of it!”

Desmodus

“Announced as the third creature to land on Fjordur, Desmodus was the second winner of the Community Creature Vote! The original creature submission garnered a lot of attention and the rest is ARK community history! Desmodus won (39,781 votes) vs. Carcharodontosaurus (24,419 votes) in the 9th and final round! As you might imagine, Desmodus prefers to hang out in dark places, waiting for its unsuspecting prey! If you’re lucky enough to tame one, you can send Desmodus to snatch up small prey or saddle up and vanish into the darkness.”

Fjordhawk

“Looking to dive right into the action, Fjordhawk can forge close bonds with humans as wholeheartedly as any canine or primate. A tamed Fjordhawk is a surprisingly playful companion that is very capable of fetching targets that you point out. A well-trained fjordhawk can locate injured prey and communicate its find to you.”

Fenrir

Fenrir is an upcoming wolf creature for ARK Fjordur, but there’s been little to no information released about the creature.

In addition to the four unique creatures introduced with ARK Fjordur, the game will also include several creatures which players will know from the base game. This includes:

New MJOLNIR Weapon

Acting as a functional weapon skin for the TEK sword, Mjolnir packs its own special powers and empowers Survivors with supernatural might. Devastate your foes with shocking ease as you exercise control over the element of lightning. However, not every survivor will pass the test and be considered worthy to obtain the mighty Mjolnir. Will you be up to the challenge?
